BANGLADESH POLICE ASKS POLICE ON UN MISSIONS TO UPHOLD PROFESSIONALISM.
Ask IGP, ‘Our police received the
world's uncompromising support and praise for their skills, morals, and
high-profile professionalism'
The Inspector General of Police
(IGP) Bangladesh has asked police officers leaving for the UN Peacekeeping
missions to work with efficiency, devotion and professionalism in the
peacekeeping mission to keeping the United Nations mandate.
IGP AKM Shahidul Haque made the
statement while briefing the officers at SI Shiru Mia Auditorium in Rajarbagh
Police Line on Tuesday.
The IGP said Bangladesh Police’s
“Blue Helmets” contributions have been outstanding and they are performing a
glorious role to provide peace and humanitarian assistance to the world’s
conflict-stricken countries.
“Our police received the world’s
uncompromising support and praise for their skills, morals, and high-profile
professionalism. The praise we have received has increased Bangladesh’s stature
in the world. “You have to ensure this success continues,” IGP Shahidul
emphasised.
This year, 600 police officers
are leaving to take part in the United Nations Peacekeeping operations. Currently
1,006 members, including 164 women, of Bangladesh Police are in Darfur, Haiti,
Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, South Sudan and Liberia as part of the UN
peacekeeping force. Two women contingents have been deployed in the Democratic
Republic of Congo and Haiti missions.
Bangladesh Police has sent 16,976
officers on UN peacekeeping missions. In the course of action, 20 officers have
lost their lives.
