REGARDING TELEPHONIC INTERVIEW

1)   Be ready all the time: After you completed your pre-deployment training and after your name was submitted to DPKO, you may be called anytime of the day, since the time zone differences between you and the mission area.

2)   Research about the mission: What’s the capital city of the Country you’re going to? What are the problems they are currently facing? Why is United Nations there? U.N. is operating under Chapter 6 or Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter? (and if you don’t know what the U.N. Charter is, find it out urgently) Geographically, it is surrounded by which countries? Therefore, have always with you a piece of paper answering all these questions. You will get good points with the interviewer if you show that you’re prepared to the mission.

3)   Questions go far beyond from the UN Core Values : Yes, you will be asked ‘What are the UN Core values’? And you will answer: Integrity, Professionalism, Respect for Diversity; and Gender Mainstreaming. Know by heart this answer and be prepared to explain each one of them if necessary.

4)   In your EASP, give at least two numbers from different phone operators: If you cannot listen to the interviewer properly, don’t be shy and SAY THAT! They will call you later or in another number. So giving them both a mobile number and a land-line is a good idea.

5)   Be prepared to answer basic police questions: What should you put in a police report? What are the actions a police officer should do when arriving on a crime scene? What is community policing? Be prepared to explain this with police terms and technical definitions, but no with common-sense and general ideas.

How to be sure that you can pass the SAAT interview and the pre-deployment phone interview?
We would gladly assist you on this, we can call and do a simulated panel, with different people asking you questions in different accents.
