READING COMPREHENSION TEST # 4
“BLOOD DONATION”
On 15th July 2009 a message was broadcast to all UNPOLs asking them to donate blood to the Dili National Hospital because the hospital had a severe shortage of blood. On Tuesday 29 July, 2009, 45 UNPOL officers went to the Malaysian Formed Police Unit Clinic at Comoro for the Blood Donation Drive .
At 0900 hours on that date, the United Nations Police Commissioner arrived at the clinic to launch the Blood Donation Drive . In his opening speech, the Police Commissioner thanked all the UNPOLs for donating their blood to assist the local people. The Commissioner stated that it was important for the Timorese community to see that the UN police were there not only to assist with policing but also to assist the community in any way they could. He stated that the Blood Donation Drive was a good way to improve the relationship between UNPOL and the community at large.
At the conclusion of his speech, the Police Commissioner himself went into the clinic and donated blood. The Commissioner was followed by 45 UNPOLs who each donated one pint of blood. The Clinic was manned by 1 Timorese Doctor and 3 nurses from Dili National Hospital .
Each donor was required to complete a pre-donation declaration to ensure they were free of HIV, STD’s, blood borne diseases and any other ailment which would preclude them from donating blood. Due to the recent H1N1, or swine flu virus, each donor was also required to state if they had suffered from any coughs, fever, influenza or other flu-like symptoms in the previous two weeks.
Each person then had their blood pressure and vital statistics recorded by a nurse. They then proceeded to a bed in the clinic where their blood was taken. One of the UNPOLs was unable to donate blood because the Doctor could not find a suitable vein in her arm to use.
Members from the Public Information Office and the Timorese media were present at the blood drive and the campaign featured heavily in the media in the proceeding days.
The Director of the Dili National Hospital , Mr Wayne Smith, on Timorese television, thanked UNPOL for donating blood, and assured them it would be used to save many lives. All involved agreed that the campaign was a success, both in terms of providing much needed blood and as a community relations exercise.

I think the answer of question no. 2 of set 4A is; 44. Because it is stated in the Report that "One of the UNPOLs was unable to donate blood because the Doctor could not find a suitable vein in her arm to use".
ReplyDelete4 "B" Question 2 answer should be 44 beautiful one(1) of the 45 UNPOLs was unable to donate blood because the doctor cannot locate a suitable vain for the blood to be extracted from her.
