CORE VALUES OF UNITED NATIONS
Core values are the shared principles that underpin the work of the Organization and guide the actions and behaviors of United Nations staff members in carrying out their individual work: integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity/gender.
All United Nations staff members are expected to behave in accordance with the core values and will be appraised on these values.
INTEGRITY
Ø  Upholds the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Ø  Demonstrates the values of the United Nations, including impartiality, fairness, honesty and truthfulness, in daily activities and behaviors.
Ø  Acts without consideration of personal gain.
Ø  Resists undue political pressure in decision-making.
Ø  Does not abuse power or authority.
Ø  Stands by decisions that are in the Organization's interest even if they are unpopular.
Ø  Takes prompt action in cases of unprofessional or unethical behaviour.

PROFESSIONALISM
Ø  Shows pride in work and in achievements.
Ø  Demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter.
Ø  Is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results.
Ø  Is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns.
Ø  Shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges.
Ø  Remains calm in stressful situations.

RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY/GENDER
Ø  Works effectively with people from all backgrounds.
Ø  Treats all people with dignity and respect.
Ø  Treats men and women equally.
Ø  Shows respect for, and understanding of, diverse points of view and demonstrates this understanding in daily work and decision-making.
Ø  Examines own biases and behaviors to avoid stereotypical responses.
Ø  Does not discriminate against any individual or group.
Ø  Includes a gender perspective in substantive work.
